FLORIDA
Gallery Fourteen
We were able to spend a long weekend in the Panhandle of
Florida at the beginning of March 2007. We stayed in Destin on what is
known as The Emerald Coast. This was Jürgen's first trip to Florida. I
think this was my fifth time there but my first time in this particular
area. Florida is a vast and varied State with many treasures to explore.
There is much more than only Disney World or the beach. If it is beach you
want though, this is an unusual area of the Gulf Coast. The sand was so
white that when the sun shown fully the reflection almost hurt your eyes
and the water is beautiful shades of blue and green. We drove up to
Pensacola and walked through the restored Historical District in downtown.
We also saw a portion of the Gulf Islands National Seashore and drove as
far as Gulf Shores, Alabama before returning to Destin. We met friendly,
helpful people; just as you would expect in the South, and we ate wonderful
fresh seafood. In addition, we took some photographs we sincerely hope you
will enjoy. If you are a water person, like me, I hope you will find
something in them that speaks to you personally. If you are a mountain
person, like Jürgen, hold on. We will make it back to the mountains on
another trip soon.

Although the oldest settlement, its location has caused great turmoil, with
many buildings destroyed by wars, and by numerous major hurricanes.<br /><br />
The downtown area has been restored beautifully, from the old fashioned signs
and storefronts, to the homes. I found this sign in front of an Optometrists
Office to be fascinating. You really do not need words. The glasses tell you
the entire story. It reminded me of when I was younger but also of a lot of
signs that hang outside of businesses in Germany.</p>'))

 is an area in the southeastern United States on the coast
of the Gulf of Mexico, roughly bounded by Pensacola, Florida on the west and
Panama City, Florida on the east. The area is known to have some of the most
stunning beaches in the world, famous for their sugar-white sands and warm,
emerald-green waters.<br /><br />
The sand really is a beautiful color of white and the ocean is such beautiful
colors of blue and green. The fence and grass add some contrast and interest
to this photograph. Looking at it; I can remember the way I felt standing
there seeing it in person. I can almost smell the ocean in the air.</p>'))
